Beast mode: Jonathan Young of Gulf Shores shines in latest 'Survivor' episode.

Episode three’s challenge involved swimming, diving and carrying a heavy ladder, all in a rough surf that probably would have had at least one red flag flying on the beaches Young calls home. Young went into beast mode. He didn’t just singlehandedly carry the ladder where it needed to go, he went back to help teammates who couldn’t keep up. Then, standing in water up to his neck, he raised the ladder up and held it firm while another teammate climbed it.

Ika won it, barely, securing immunity. Vati, which has seemed to have a high potential for drama, lived up to expectations. Had that not been the case, actor Lydia Meredith might have gone home on the first ballot. Instead there was a tie between her and designer Jenny Kim. The second vote was another tie. Then it came down to a discussion -- and if the discussion had failed, it was going to come down to a drawing.

But analytics director Hai Giang stood rock-solid in his support for Lydia. Law clerk and budding villain Daniel Strunk lined up with him to vote out Jenny. Daniel also loudly blamed Chanelle for his actions, to her outrage.
