Steve, an 11-year-old, diabetic cheetah, was a favorite of Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens staff and visitors. 'Steve's quality of life was the highest priority, and the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize him,' a post by the zoo read.

Steve had a limp caused when he broke his foot at an early age. He also suffered from diabetes, the zoo said.

His caretakers and other zoo staff are mourning his death. He is being remembered for his affable, good nature. Steve chased boomer balls and would excitedly run along his exhibit when bicycles rode on the back side of the mesh.
