Bernie Sanders urges young progressive Texans to vote at San Marcos rally

Bernie Sanders visited Texas State University on Saturday to urge hundreds of students to take their progressive ideals to the ballot box.
“The majority of us believe that immigrant rights are human rights, that Black lives matter and the rights of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters,” Casar said. “We are the majority. This is our state, this is our home, and it’s time to organize like hell to take it back.” “I want to tell you all the truth: The barriers are high, but the stakes are so much higher,” Casar said. “And that's why we can't give up, because we can save millions of people's jobs and homes and lives across the world if we take on the climate crisis and the fossil fuel CEOs and actually tackle this global challenge.”After the San Marcos event, Sanders planned to meet with labor organizers and rally again with youth advocacy organizations in Austin.
Political watchdogs have rated the 15th district “likely Republican.” De La Cruz has also taken the Sanders visit as an opportunity to criticize Vallejo, taunting her on Twitter Saturday with “five questions … ahead of socialist Bernie Sanders’ visit to South Texas.” Early voting began on Monday, and initial totals are trailing slightly behind 2018 tallies. Democrats have long painted Texas as a low-turnout state, not a red state — though they have failed to win any statewide race here in nearly three decades.
