"CODA" was the first film with a predominately deaf cast to win Best Picture. They took home three awards in total that evening. "I wouldn't say the word is honored, but kind of,” student Max Ramirez said. "I think it's more like, yeah, I can see myself on television. I can see my brother, who’s a CODA. We're not the only ones having that experience.”
Deaf communities across America hope the film’s publicity will encourage studios to hire others that are “hard of hearing” in the years to come.
