WASHINGTON - The United States will challenge Mexico's energy policies as favoring state-owned business in possible violation of, the Biden administration announced Wednesday.
U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai has requested a dispute settlement consultation to challenge policies she said,"that undermine American companies and U.S.-produced energy" and aid the state-owned oil company Pemex and power utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad. "We have repeatedly expressed serious concerns about a series of changes in Mexico’s energy policies and their consistency with Mexico’s commitments under the USMCA,” Tai said in a statement.. “We have tried to work constructively with the Mexican government to address these concerns, but, unfortunately, U.S. companies continue to face unfair treatment in Mexico."
