President Joe Biden hinted that he would not travel to Ukraine as speculation swirls around the prospect of a visit nearly one year into the war.
Biden has rallied trans-Atlantic leaders in neighboring European countries for several high-stakes summits on the war in Ukraine and met with refugees and troops along Ukraine’s border. But while Biden said he was weighing a return visit to Poland, a close trans-Atlantic partner bordering Ukraine, the president appeared to rule out a visit to Ukraine.
“There’s a possibility I may go to Poland, but that’s all,” Biden told reporters outside the White House Thursday. Biden said last month that he planned to talk with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine about the latest requests for weapons to defend the country against Russia.Biden’s top aides have traveled to Kyiv since the start of the war, with White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan making a surprise visit to Kyiv last year to meet with Zelensky.
