As more classified materials have been found, some members of Congress are questioning what might be found in other presidents' possession.
In a series of interviews on Capitol Hill this week, several Republican members of Congress toldthey had concerns about the chain of custody involved in the handling of sensitive material amid mounting questions about how several former presidents were apparently able to remove classified material from the White House.
In particular, some members urged figures like Obama to begin scouring their records to see whether they had improperly removed materials from the White House amid what some have described as an"epidemic" of protocol breaches at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. With recent discoveries of classified documents at the hand of President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence , there is a spotlight on former President Barack Obama ."Hopefully President Obama is looking at his papers, making sure he doesn't have the same," Republican Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska, who's handled sensitive documents as a member of the Armed Services Committee and in his former role as an Air Force Brigadier General, toldin an interview.
"I have seen nothing that would indicate to me that it was anything other than accidental," Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein of California, the most senior Democrat in the."It's easy to do, because paper moves if somebody moves." I've been saying it, and saying it: they should be looking at Bush, Cheney, Obama, Clinton, Gore & Quayle's houses too. The problem here is not nefarious intent. It's staffers rush packing thousands or millions of pages of documents.
