"Taking away the right of women to make their own reproductive health care decisions endangers women’s health, with potentially life-threatening consequences," Vice President Kamala Harris said. Harris said she met with health care providers at the White House in 2021 after the new law passed and"we discussed the impact that doctors and nurses feared their patients would experience as a result of Texas’ extreme laws.The ban in Texas allows for exceptions only when there is"substantial" risk to a mother, or if a fetus has a fatal diagnosis.
