President Joe Biden tested negative for COVID-19 before his scheduled departure for India and Vietnam.
Biden, along with the aides traveling with him, will test again on Thursday, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre."He doesn't have any symptoms," she told reporters Wednesday.
Biden has been testing after first lady Jill Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 last Monday. The first lady remained in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, while the president returned to the White House that same day, but earlier than planned. She is doing"well," Jean-Pierre said. But although Jean-Pierre repeated that Biden testing negative and being symptom-free is a"good thing," the press secretary declined to detail contingencies should he test positive on Thursday before the Group of 20 leaders summit in New Delhi, including whether Vice President Kamala Harris, who is in Indonesia, would attend in his stead, though she did say he would wear a mask.
"He left when there was a pause in the program in order to minimize his close contact with attendees," Jean-Pierre said.
