Binance on Wednesday asked a U.S federal judge to remove it from a lawsuit that alleged the crypto exchange “aided and abetted” in an $8 million romance scam.
Plaintiff Divya Gadasalli had sued the Cayman Islands company in federal civil court for its alleged role in cashing out the scammed crypto, which she had bought on Coinbase. Gadasalli also named Jerry Bulsa, Dong Lian, Danyun Lin, TD Bank, Abacus Federal Savings Bank and Poloniex. But in a motion to dismiss, Binance told the court that Gadasalli based her allegations on paper-thin assertions. It said Gadasalli failed to establish a claim against Binance.The exchange further argued that as a foreign entity it is not subject to the “personal jurisdiction” of the U.S. federal court system. It cited a number of recent dismissals secured in federal court, including in Florida, New York and California.
Lawyers for Biance did not immediately comment when called Thursday. Lawyers for the plaintiff did not pick up the phone.Thursday - Sunday, June 9-12, 2022
