For 17 years, the Fairbanks location for the Blood Bank of Alaska has been collecting live-saving resources from the community.
Now, after occupying their Airport Way location since its construction, the non-profit is finally able to purchase the building for $1.2 million.
Scanlon hopes that this will lend stability to the Blood Bank’s presence in the Interior. “We’ve always thought of ourselves as members of the community, but now we actually own property there, so we are members of the community. We’re not going anywhere.” As a permanent location, the Fairbanks facility could also act as a backup for Anchorage, according to Scanlon. “If there’s something that would ever occur that would preclude us from having operations in Anchorage, we would be able to hand the baton over to Fairbanks, and they would be able to provide that representation for the Blood Bank.”
