The 747 was the world’s first wide-body, twin-aisle passenger jet, allowing it to hold around 400 to 500 passengers depending on the model and airline layout.British Airways ordered 94 passenger versions of the 747s, more than any other airline, retiring the last in October 2020. The jets flew from its London base to every continent except Antarctica.The 747 has had a good safety record, but its sheer scale amplified any accidents.
