Boeing plans to launch an uncrewed CST-100 Starliner spacecraft on Thursday at 5:54 p.m....

“We really would like to have, and our program is designed to have, two full space transportation systems,” said Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, “and we’re excited to bring Boeing online.”And NASA does not want to be dependent on Russia. It had to buy seats on the Russian Soyuz capsule after the space shuttle retired in 2011.

Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft will launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Weather was 70 percent favorable for liftoff, according to a Wednesday update from the Space Force's 45th Weather Squadron. “The point of this demonstration is to make sure that we’re buying down risk,” said Kathy Lueders, NASA’s associate administrator for Space Operations, “and thoroughly testing out the system before we go put crew on the next vehicle.”
