One forgotten franchise villain trope could help usher in a complete tonal shift to the franchise as it resets from the Daniel Craig era.
The James Bond franchise has always been defined by its villains, and one long-forgotten trope needs to make a comeback as the franchise resets from the Daniel Craig era with Bond 26. The five Daniel Craig movies, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006, leaned into a more grounded version of the secret agent and his adventures.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This is especially true of the villains in the most recent films. With Bond 26 on the way, the timing is perfect to revitalize a classic Bond villain trope, and in doing so signal a tonal shift for the James Bond franchise.
Bond 26 Should Bring Back Sharks Bond 26 can make a splash by bringing back sharks. On multiple occasions in the early James Bond films, the eponymous secret agent tangles with villains with a penchant for shark tanks. First seen in 1965's Thunderball, the eye patch-wearing SPECTRE operative Emilio Largo held his "Golden Grotto" sharks in a massive tank that were used as a method of execution for those who crossed him.
Why Sharks Are Such An Important Villain Trope James Bond villains are unique because of their cartoonishness, and that's what makes them so memorable. Whether it's the scarred megalomaniac Blofeld stroking his white cat or the silent, massive assassin Jaws biting through padlocks with his steel teeth, Bond movies are defined by the secret agent's antagonist.
Bringing back sharks in Bond 26 will represent a much-needed change for the James Bond franchise. James Bond himself will remain as cool as ever, but ratcheting up the villainous absurdity and the action with modern effects and writing could make for an extremely entertaining movie.
