There are more than 82,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of the morning of Feb. 27, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University. Confirmed cases have been found in every continent except Antarctica.
On Feb. 26, the number of new cases reported outside China exceeded those inside the country for the first time since the disease caused by a novel coronavirus was identified in early December. Also on Feb. 26, U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Vice President Mike Pence to lead Washington’s effort to fight the epidemic. The same day, the first case of what could be infection through local transmission was announced in California.
