One of the region's most influential nonprofit leaders has announced his retirement.
Brian Payne, one of the region's most influential nonprofit leaders, has announced his retirement. The president and CEO of Central Indiana Community Foundation and president of The Indianapolis Foundation will end his tenure June 30, 2023.
He began working for CICF in 2000, and since then, he has overseen growth in a philanthropic collaborative that includes CICF, The Indianapolis Foundation, Hamilton County Community Foundation, IMPACT Central Indiana and Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. During that time, its assets have reached more than $1 billion and annual grantmaking more than $95 million.
Notably, the collaborative changed its mission in 2018 to commit to equity and anti-racism. CICF became one of the founding members of Nexus for Equity + Opportunity Nationwide, which focuses on building economic and cultural mobility by removing structural and systemic racism.“Going on a racial equity learning journey with my local and national colleagues and our foundations’ board of directors has been the most important opportunity in my career,” Payne said in a news release.
