JCB Inc. is expanding to San Antonio with plans to build a 72,000-square-foot facility that could employ more than 1,500 people within five years.

Officials celebrate the announcement that JCB, a British-based manufacturer of industrial equipment, plans to build a manufacturing facility on San Antonio's South Side.The world’s largest privately owned construction and agricultural equipment maker is expanding to San Antonio with plans to build a 72,000-square-foot facility that could employ more than 1,500 people within five years.

President and CEO Jenna Saucedo-Herrera of Greater:SATX, the regional economic development partnership that led the effort, called it “the largest single jobs investment in over 20 years” for the area. The company is seeking a 400-acre site for its new plant, which will be the second in the U.S.; it began manufacturing in Savannah, Georgia, in 2001. JCB North America already employs 1,000 people.

Richard Fox-Marrs, president and CEO of JCB North America, joins local officials at the announcement of the company’s new facility planned for San Antonio.Saucedo-Herrera described economic development as a team sport. “Projects of this size, scale and magnitude require partnership across all levels of government,” as well as private sector investors.

David Marquez, Bexar County’s executive director of economic and community development, said the county created his department in the wake of Toyota’s arrival, and has been focused on growing the county’s advanced manufacturing in the region ever since.
