Pat Surtain II made it a clean sweep of postseason awards.

The second-year Broncos cornerback on Friday was named a first-team All-Pro selection by The Associated Press, marking the third major honor he’s received in the past few days. Surtain also earned first-team All-Pro honors in the first-ever NFL Players Association vote and was named a Pro Bowl Games starter last month.

Surtain, 22, wasted little time stating his case as perhaps the game’s best cornerback. Opposing teams avoided him entirely at times and only fellow first-team All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams of Las Vegas really got the better of him over an entire game. “He’s an unbelievable football player, unbelievable person,” former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said in November. “And then his work ethic, everything that he does. … I wouldn’t really blame people for not trying to throw over there because of his skill set.”

Surtain logged interceptions in back-to-back games in December against Kansas City and Arizona and gave first-year defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero flexibility to deploy resources elsewhere knowing that Surtain rarely needs help. “Sometimes stats are very misleading,” Evero said in November. “If you look at the numbers, they’re not going to tell you anything. You watch the film, this guy is playing as good of football as anybody in the NFL at any position.”
