Jimin, a member of the K-Pop boy band BTS, has tested positive for Covid-19 and underwent surgery for acute appendicitis, his management company said Monday

.

The singer, whose full name is Park Ji-min, went to a hospital emergency room Sunday after experiencing sudden abdominal pain and a mild sore throat, according to Big Hit Music. Jimin’s Covid test came back positive, and physicians told him he needed surgery for the acute appendicitis, the company said.

Jimin had a successful surgery on Monday and is currently recovering from the procedure, Big Hit Music said. He is receiving treatment for Covid-19, but is still only experiencing a mild sore throat, the company said. He never interacted with any other BTS members while he was infectious, the company said.

“The company places the artists’ health as our top priority, and we will do everything we can to aid Jimin in his speedy recovery,” Big Hit Music said. “We will also diligently cooperate with the requests and guidelines of the healthcare authorities.”
