As 2020 unfolded, its many newsworthy moments, from coronavirus to the United States presidential election, presented numerous opportunities for publishers with live blog templates to utilize them to aggregate coverage. After monitoring the landscape for the first half of the year, our SEO and Product teams pitched the idea of creating a live blog format for Forbes’ Newsroom.
With the election quickly approaching, a live blog format would have been ideal for reporting on a highly-anticipated and contentious US Presidential Election. But with less than 6 weeks until the US Presidential Election, a launch before November 3rd was unlikely. Instead, we planned to release an MVP in time for the inauguration on January 20, 2021.To deliver an MVP within such a tight timeframe, we knew that our initial approach had to be as lean as possible.
Launching a successful product required us to define set-in-stone requirements, align on the approach, mock designs, determine technical implementation, and test the feature end-to-end. Two weeks after the proposal was made, we were off to the races. As the two lead product owners on the project, we began coordination amongst five different teams, including design, CMS, API, & Forbes.com development, and QA.
