'Buster Posey bought a share of his old team months ago, and he still doesn’t know how to answer questions about Charles Johnson.'

In fact, Posey has really had at least five years to come up with a better answer.

In 2018, when Posey was Johnson’s employee instead of his co-investor, local Black leaders called for a boycott of the Giants because Johnson donated to a pro-Trump super PAC that produced a racist ad and to a Mississippi Senate candidate who had just made a joke about lynching. At the time, the Giants called the donations “,” which is more than Posey could bring himself to say five years later.

Posey’s claim of his own ignorance is absurd. His suggestion of others’ is mind-blowingly condescending. Does he think Johnson, who basically never speaks in public, has been unfairly convicted by the kangaroo court of public opinion? Again: “I do think some of our reactions are so extreme … I think we all speak too quickly on things we’re not completely sure about.”

I’m not sure who exactly “we” are here, but just speaking for myself, five full years seems like plenty of time to develop an opinion, or at least come up with a fuller-assed communications strategy. And there is no confusion about who Johnson is: an oligarch who has spent a decent chunk of his own fortune on making American society in his own image.
