He took that a step further on Saturday taking the field in a black jersey that read “Haskins Jr.” on the nameplate giving the former quarterback one more chance to take the field. The drive ended with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Stroud’s relationship with Haskins largely exists due to having some quarterback trainers in common, such as Quincy Avery. But he watched from afar dating back to his high school days, especially impressed by the record-breaking 2018 season. “I used to watch the Elite 11 documentary all the time and he was one of the dudes on there,” Stroud said. “Looked up his highlights after and went from there and started studying his career. He’s a big-time player, big-time dude. Not just on the field but off as well.”
