California Democrats are hoping to flip key House districts in the 2024 election cycle to regain control of the House of Representatives.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Monday revealed eight California seats where they plan to “play aggressively” in 2024, according to Politico. Republicans hold a five-seat majority in the House, but that could be undone if the California Democrats are successful.The eight seats in question are currently held by GOP Reps. John Duarte, David Valadao, Ken Calvert, Kevin Kiley, Mike Garcia, Michelle Steel, and Young Kim.
Both political parties are also eyeing a seat currently held by Rep. Katie Porter , who is running for U.S. Senate. That district is a swing area and encompasses parts of Orange and Los Angeles counties. The district barely swings to the left because registered Democrats narrowly outnumber registered Republicans. Approximately a quarter of the district also holds no party preference.Porter narrowly beat her Republican opponent Scott Baugh in November.
Republicans are also hoping to flip the seats of Democratic Reps. Josh Harder and Mike Levin in 2024. Potentially the most important seat in the state is held by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy , but McCarthy sits in a solidly red district — Bakersfield.
