Lee Walker also was convicted of attempted murder for shooting at 5 other men, 4 of whom were injured and one who was not hurt.

Rivera-Velasco and the men in the other vehicle — a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado — were friends and cousins who worked as landscapers and gardeners, and were spending a rare day off drinking and watching Mexico’s soccer team compete in the World Cup. The men were leaving a restaurant around 6:30 p.m. when they clipped Walker’s pickup, but they apparently didn’t notice as they listened to music and talked to one another.
Walker drove his girlfriend and son back to her parents’ home in Santa Ana, and later turned himself in to police. Senior Deputy District Attorney Dan Feldman told jurors that Walker shot the men because he believed they had disrespected him. The prosecutor alleged that Walker waited until the two vehicles were on a less populated side street before attacking the men.
“You don’t get to chase someone down, rack a round, run up to them and claim you are standing your ground,” Feldman said. “That is how a predator tracks prey.”
