California Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil has decided to leave the Democratic Party and join the Republicans.She said that 'the status quo under a supermajority Democratic rule in the legislature is simply not working for this state' when she announced the move on Thursday.Alvarado-Gil, who represents District 4, was elected in 2022 and will run in 2026 as a Republican; she is the first Californian senator to switch parties in the middle of a term.
