Next summer, Miami will have 10 daily widebody flights, including four transatlantic to Barcelona, London Heathrow, Madrid and Tel Aviv and four to deep South America – including Buenos Aires, Rio, Santiago and Sao Paulo.
In the third quarter of 2019, American derived $1.2 billion from its Latin American operations, which was 10% of total revenue. United reaped $877 million, which was 8% of revenue, from Latin America, while Delta booked $760 million, 5% of revenue. Curiously, on the third-quarter earnings call, American executives barely mentioned Latin America. One analyst asked about American’s investments in Santiago-based JetSmart and Sao Paulo based Gol. Raja said the investments reflect that “the one thing we can’t do for the South American customer is carry them within South America. So we are always on the lookout for partners that can help us do that.
