magazine commissions the photoshoot of an automotive icon from the past, it’s always a great chance to recapture a car familiar to the magazine, but in a contemporary style. As featured in the latest issue , John Barker and photographer Andy Morgan came together for a look back at the, a British icon that helped define our understanding of how a real sports car can drive in the modern era.
This shoot comes twenty two years after John Barker first got behind the wheel of a Noble M12 , then an unknown entity with its namesake, Lee Noble, at the head of both the company and its engineering. Its purist combination of a lightweight mid-engined tubular steel chassis and a turbocharged engine was nothing unusual for the time, but as John Barker found out, there was far more to the story than just its layout.
This is something photographer Andy Morgan expertly captures through the images in this retrospective, some of which in this gallery never made it to our print feature. By peeling away the composite bodywork, we get a sense of the engineering involved, engineering that was there purely for the task of making the Noble M400 an engaging experience like no other.Did it work? There’s no doubt.
And as one of the first cars to star in the magazine, it was only fitting that one of our founding editors, and the original staff photographer were called in for this most important of retrospectives.
