A cat found abandoned at a rest stop on a Connecticut highway is recovering after having his eye removed.Allyson Halm, an animal control officer from New Canaan, was called to take the feline off the hands of state troopers.

The cat was taken immediately to the vet because of the freezing temperatures. It was there that the severity of his injuries were discovered. The cat had two broken legs and a traumatic eye injury.Last year, local television station WTNH reported that Connecticut's abandoned cat problem had worsened over the pandemic. During lockdown, there were fewer spay and neuter opportunities for cats, and the sheltering system slowed down.
