When investigators spoke to Karolyn Sherwood, she was upset and asked if the touching was sexual in nature, according to the affidavit. She said she asked because of “Nathaniel’s past,” but it was unclear what she was referring to. Karolyn Sherwood said she told the girl that Nathaniel would have to go to jail and he “would likely not survive in jail,” according to the affidavit.
A month later, the girl sat down with investigators again and said the year before she was forced into recanting her allegations against her father. The girl remembered her parents saying she needed to keep quiet or she would be in trouble, and that her father might be killed if he went to jail, according to the affidavit.
