About 78% of intensive care unit beds were occupied, and 19,000 patients were in COVID-19 ICU beds. Hospitalizations among children with COVID-19, in particular, are surging. During the week of Dec. 22-28, an average of 378 children ages 17 and under were admitted per day to hospitals, a 66% increase from the previous week , the CDC reported Thursday.
