Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell said he would not be moving forward with the case and filed a motion to dismiss the charges, calling them a “big misunderstanding.” Scheffler was arrested after being suspected of“Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office can not move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler,” O’Connell“Mr. Scheffler’s characterization that this was a ‘big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence.
Some areas of entrance to the course were blocked off due to a pedestrian being fatally struck by a bus earlier that day. Scheffler was reportedly driving a marked player car and attempted to enter the course where he was stopped by a police officer. “Subject refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground,” the report said.
He faced multiple charges including the second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.
