Ashton Montalvo, 32, and Deangelo Laraye Boone, 39, faced two felony charges for arson and mutilation after being connected to the death of a 25-year-old woman found “badly burned,” on the Mokelumne Trail near Gentrytown Drive on Oct.
“After thoroughly reviewing the officers’ role in this case, applying relevant legal principles, and considering ethical responsibilities, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office no longer has confidence in the integrity of this prosecution,” the office said in aA report released in April revealed that at least 17 of the city’s officers had a pattern of using racist slurs via text as they discussed Black people and other minority groups,.
The DA’s office said Montalvo and Boone’s prosecution “relied heavily on the investigative work of Antioch Police Officers” who are related to the racist texts investigation.
