Chevy's Silverado HD ZR2 is a big-boned off-roader.
models. The Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 is based on the brand’s Silverado 2500 and comes exclusively in a Crew Cab configuration. Under the hood, customers will have a choice between two V-8 engines: either a 6.6-liter gasoline motor or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel.
Like the rest of the Silverado HD lineup, the gasoline engine comes rated at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax is a bit more potent, providing customers 470 hp and a whopping 975 lb-ft of torque. That torque is all available from just 1600 rpm, which should help make crawling over obstacles a drama-free experience. Both engines come exclusively mated to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
Other highlights include a rear e-locker that helps keep things tidy when tackling obstacles, while upgraded steel and aluminum skid plates protect the transfer case and engine. Like the other ZR2 models, the Silverado HD receives Off-Road mode calibrations. Those modes tune systems such as ABS, traction control, and stability control, as well as throttle and transmission mapping for ease of use on the trails.
