The Chicago White Sox have recalled pitcher Mike Clevinger from Triple-A Charlotte and he will start Monday night’s game.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger delivers to the Seattle Mariners in the second inning of a game at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023.
Clevinger went 9-9 for the club last season with a 3.77 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 24 starts. He led Sox starters in wins and ERA. With Clevinger, the Sox have six possible options for their rotation on the roster along with Garrett Crochet, Erick Fedde, Michael Soroka, Chris Flexen and Brad Keller. Flexen is the probable starter for Wednesday’s series finale against the Rays.
Grifol mentioned Jared Shuster and Tanner Banks, along with possibly Keller as bullpen options for length. “Fedde is the head of the staff, as he goes we go,” Crochet told the Tribune on Monday. “He’s been throwing the ball real well. We’re a pretty close-knit group. We all watch each other’s pregame bullpens and we all go over film together.
“They’re throwing strikes, they compete,” Grifol said. “They’re giving us a chance to win. They’re doing a nice job, they really are.”
