UPDATE A 10-year-old boy has died and a man has been arrested after a wrong-way crash on Loop 202 Sunday. Another child and two adults remain hospitalized.
PHOENIX — Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say one person was killed in a wrong-way crash on South Mountain Loop 202 Sunday afternoon. Multiple others were also hurt.
On Monday, DPS said that a 10-year-old boy was killed in the crash. The boy was a passenger in the wrong-way vehicle.Officials say that five vehicles were involved in the crash. DPS officials say a 34-year-old male driver has been arrested and impairment is believed to be a factor. The man faces second-degree homicide charges and three counts of aggravated assault, according to officials.The second adult that was injured was the only other person, not in the wrong-way vehicle, that was injured.
Phoenix Fire officials initially said the children involved were a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old girl, but DPS confirms they were both boys, ages 10 and 5.There's no estimated time to reopen the freeway. https://t.co/w6HcmHpb3IProfessional driving instructor Steven Aragon with ABC Driving Company says wrong-way drivers are a big concern in the Valley.
