China launches 3 communications test satellites to low Earth orbit

A Long March 2C rocket lifts off from China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on May 20, 2022, carrying three communications test satellites.

Notably, two of the satellites were developed by Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., a remote sensing satellite developer and operator spun off from the state-owned Chinese Academy of Sciences . The spacecraft carry inter-satellite laser communications payloadsand could help satellites send information to each other and reduce the need for ground stations on Earth.

The other satellite was developed by Aerospace Dongfanghong Satellite Co., Ltd, which belongs to the China Academy of Space Technology , itself a major spacecraft-making institute under CASC.
