As of Thursday, Texas favorites Chip and Joanna Gaines are the newest ambassadors for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The couple have a long history of supporting the children’s hospital.

, who have a long history of supporting the children’s hospital, were announced as St. Jude’s ambassadors on Thursday, the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month., a social media effort to bring awareness to St. Jude and its mission throughout the month of September. They’ll also support the hospital’s annual Thanks and Giving campaign by appearing in a commercial that will debut this holiday season, St. Jude said in a news release.

The Gaineses, who rose to prominence on HGTV's “Fixer Upper” and now star in “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home” on the Magnolia Network, have visited the St. Jude campus in Memphis, Tenn., several times over the years. Seeing the kids who are being treated at the hospital for childhood cancer and other diseases inspired them to be involved in supporting St. Jude, Chip Gaines said in the release.

“The strength, radiance and courage of these kids has left a permanent mark on our hearts,” he said in the release. “They are our heroes, and we are honored to continue to do whatever we can to help St. Jude and their life-saving mission to care for these kids and their families.”
