More than 100 students at Huntington High School in West Virginia staged the walkout because they believe their religious freedoms had been violated.
Huntington High School senior Max Nibert holds signs he plans to use during a student walkout Wednesday at the school in Huntington, W.Va. The protest follows an evangelistic Christian revival assembly last week that some students at Huntington High were mandated by teachers to attend – a violation of students’ civil rights, Nibert says.
Some students, including one who is Jewish, said when they asked to leave the revival, they were told by teachers they could not,This led to Wednesday’s walkout by students who believed their religious freedoms were violated by the event, reports say. Student Max Nibert helped organize the walkout. “It’s unfortunate that it happened,” Flowers tells the AP. “We don’t believe it will ever happen again.”
