Police arrested Veotis Thomas, 57, in connection with the March 2020 shooting death of Corey McCastle, 41, in Chula Vista; investigators believe a fourth suspect remains at large, police said
Investigators have arrested a third suspect in connection with the slaying of Corey McCastle, who was gunned down in Chula Vista more than three years ago. Veotis Thomas, 57, of La Mesa, was arrested Oct. 11 on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection to the March 2020 shooting, Chula Vista police Sgt. Anthony Molina said Tuesday. Two other men, 29-year-old Victor Nunez of San Diego and 28-year-old Aaron Gonzalez of Murrieta, were arrested earlier this year, Molina said.
On the night of the shooting, officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard shortly after 10 p.m. on E Street between Interstate 5 and Woodlawn Avenue, Molina said. McCastle, 41, was found at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Investigators learned McCastle and a woman had gone to the location to speak with an unknown person about some sort of dispute over a dog, police said at the time.
