In 2021, the City of Austin allocated $400 million towards its fight to end chronic homelessness. The City is pledging to develop 1,000 new apartments to house the homeless over the next three years.

AUSTIN, Texas — Antonia Romero is one of nearly 30,000 people experiencing homelessness in the Lone Star State. She lives in an encampment near Downtown Austin with her daughter, a place she currently calls home.

“I really hope they have a plan to do something about this homelessness because it’s getting tiring,” said Romero. Set to open later this year, Integral Care, who plans to model the facility after its Terrance Oaks community will manage the North Austin apartment community. Ruth Ahearn, practice administrator with Integral Care, says the site will offer mental health services, case managers and staff to support residents in the complex.
