UCSD wins all three games against UC Davis, marking third sweep in four conference series; USD takes series at Gonzaga; San Diego State swept at USC
UC San Diego has proven to be clutch when it counts this season, never more than in their three-game weekend sweep of UC Davis.
The Tritons needed late rallies for walk-off wins in 5-4 and 6-5 victories the first two games before cruising to a 13-4 win in Saturday’s finale at Triton Ballpark.In Thursday’s opener, UCSD came to bat in the ninth inning tied 4-4. Michael Fuhrman untied it with an RBI double. UCSD used three home runs, a solo shot by Brock Kleszcz, two-run homer by Fuhrman and three-run blast by Crew Robinson while completing the sweep.Monday vs. SDSU, 6 p.m.; Tuesday at SDSU, 6 p.m.; Friday-Sunday at Hawaii, 9:30 p.m./9:30 p.m./4 p.m.Sandwiched 8-1 and 9-3 wins around a 3-2 loss to take the West Coast Conference series at Gonzaga.
USD is tied for third in the WCC with Portland , three games behind Loyola Marymount and one back of Gonzaga .San Diego StateThe Aztecs scored in double figures four of their past eight games coming into the series only to be outscored a combined 26-4 by the Trojans. Three of their four runs came on solo homers. USC limited SDSU to a pair of doubles in Saturday’s shutout.Monday at UCSD, 6 p.m./Tuesday vs. UCSD, 6 p.m./Friday-Sunday at Fresno State, 6 p.m./3 p.m./1 p.m.
