On Dec. 20 around 7 a.m., CSPD received a report of a suspicious vehicle — a gray, four-door truck — on the side of the road near I-25 and the Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass in the southbound lanes. Police found Maldonado’s body inside the car. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Maldonado’s death is the 53rd homicide investigation in Colorado Springs in 2022. Colorado Springs police investigated 43 homicides this time last year, according to the department.
