Temperatures are expected to hit -12 degrees into the evening as a cold snap chills Colorado
and parts of the United States. Wind chills will further drop the temperature to -23,Meteorologist Scott Entrekin said Wednesday morning that 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected, as well.
The National Weather Service in Boulder said on Tuesday that the cold will be “life threatening” and may bring the coldest weather Denver’s seen in 32 years. “We just got a cold Arctic air mass that’s plunging down from the Arctic and Canada, bringing all the cold air here to Colorado,” Entrekin said.
The cold will continue into Thursday, the NWS said. Colorado’s temperature record for Dec. 21 is -25, Entrekin said, and the state’s unlikely to break that. But as the cold snap continues, the state may break the record for Dec. 22. The current benchmark high is -5 and the low is -17, which Entrekin said the state will approach.
