The event not only celebrates the fans who saved the club but pours back into the community by making soccer accessible to everyone.
The Columbus Crew is giving back to fans through 614 Day. Crew captain Darlington Nagbe and Addidas are giving away 614 soccer balls in hopes of making soccer accessible to everyone. The second annual 614 Day with the Columbus Crew kicks off next week on, of course, June 14. The day of celebration is a club-wide effort.
One hundred twenty-five balls will be distributed at mini-pitches to kids for free, along with “swag bags.” “Especially the way this team has evolved, it was saved by them [the fans] in many ways. So, to have your leader on the pitch show leadership off the pitch, it really reflects the character of Darlington and who he is.”
He is grateful for the community’s support and is passionate about giving back, especially when it comes to helping shape the next generation of footballers.
