The Columbus city attorney's office has filed for a contempt action against the owner of Latitude Five25 apartments for not fixing code violations.

The Columbus city attorney's office is seeking a contempt order against the owners of twin high-rise apartment towers on the Near East Side for not fixing a host of safety code violations while tenants have suffered through periods with no hot water and electricity as well as flooding.

The motion also said that Columbus police have responded many times to the towers, visible to drivers near Downtown on Interstates 71 and 670, on gun violence calls during the times that the property did not maintain court-ordered staffing on site. In its motion, the city wants the county Environmental Court to order the property owners to have a security staffing contract for at least one year, plus provide proof of current payment accounts for security staffing, while posting a bond with the court and paying a fine which both would be equal to one month’s security services.
