Chicago Cubs bullpen implosions are nothing new for veteran fans. The Cubs were clinging to wild-card hopes after their pen blew two straight games in Atlanta.

“Is that a challenge?” Ross asked Thursday afternoon. “You try to put the guys in there you trust and feel like they can execute pitches in moments and throw strikes. They go out there and do the best they can.” Ross is no worrywart either and defended his team Thursday by saying “everybody is giving us what they’ve got right now.”
Stroman allowed four runs and lasted only two innings Thursday to put the Cubs in an early hole and force Ross to go to his pen early. But Cubs relievers were a combined 4-8 with a 4.36 ERA in September, along with those 10 blown saves.
