Forums sponsored by the People's Association for Justice Advocates and University Heights Community Organization will introduce candidates for the District 4 special election
County supervisor candidates will debate plans for tackling homelessness, foster care and other issues at upcoming forums ahead of a special election in District 4.this fall will determine the replacement for Nathan Fletcher, who took leave from his seat in March and announced plans to resign May 15 following sexual misconduct allegations. If no candidate wins a majority in an August 15 primary, the race will go to a runoff on Nov. 7.
Three candidates have launched campaigns for the seat: Democrats Janessa Goldbeck and San Diego City Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe and Republican Amy Reichert.They will discuss their policy positions and answer questions at a public forum May 18 sponsored by the People’s Association for Justice Advocates and moderated by Shane Harris, the group’s president.
The nonpartisan event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Copley Price Family YMCA at 4300 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego. Participants can register to attend at“The main focus of this discussion will be focused on their positions on the county’s response to the homeless crisis and how they will seek to transform the foster care system if elected,” Harris said on Twitter.will host a separate candidate forum on June 1 at 7 p.m.
The event will be open to the public with no registration required, and will feature presentations by each candidate followed by a question-and-answer period, association board member Nan McGraw said. The League of Women Voters San Diego is also considering hosting a candidate forum for the special election, said Kim Knox, president of the organization.
