When they do, it’s done in a manual and error prone way. As each of these examples illustrate, the shared context gleaned from data security and IAM solutions provide organizations a wider, clearer lens which allows them to drive out assumptive risk, improve user experience, and establish finer grain security policies. The net result is that they can position their security controls to effectively secure the new perimeter.
Once organizations know where the sensitive data is being stored, accessed, and shared by employees, they can perform vulnerability assessments on the repositories to understand the risk associated with those repositories and the data within them – affording the context needed to determine the appropriate level of controls.
