County public health officials say that a two-week investigation showed 'no conclusive evidence' of increased gastrointestinal illness at a South Bay health clinic that claimed its patients suffered such symptoms since Tropical Storm Hillary inundated the heavily polluted Tijuana River in August 2023.
Dickson noted that while her organization's chart, which ran from June 1 through September, 21, 2023, did have an aggregated 'total GI illness' category, it also separately tracked diarrhea among South Bay Urgent Care's patients. The county's report, she notes, indicates that diarrhea 'is a better measure of actual illness,' though here the clinic's observations tracked relatively closely with those of other clinics.
