Not ready for prime time
California does not have the means to mass-produce hydrogen, which is a clean derivative of natural gas. This would be needed to make up for the shortfall, said Jack Brouwer, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of California, Irvine. “What we are investing in is insufficient. We need natural gas. That is where the state has failed," Brouwer said.
